About Shay

Clay by Shay is a small batch ceramics studio dedicated to sustainability. Our jewelry is lightweight, colorful and made to last. From class V kayakers, to V11+ climbers, to lead singers in punk bands, our jewelry is made to withstand the elements. We offer versatile looks so that maximalists and minimalists can both be satisfied. We use stoneware, porcelain and earthenware and are committed to a plastic-free product. We mix our own clay from scratch and recycle every scrap. We are truly a low impact company. Not only do we make versatile earrings that can be worn to a wedding or a zoom meeting, but we also use our platform to fundraise for social and environmental causes that are important to us.

Our founder, Shaylie McCall Woodhouse, is a full time artist and designer, environmental activist and an advocate for women. In 2018, Shay began Clay by Shay in her garage in Banks, Idaho. After 15 years of dedication to ceramics, she was able to infuse that knowledge into her jewelry. With whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, and biking as her main hobbies, Shay makes her designs "adventure proof" and able to withstand the elements. Clay by Shay Jewelry is now 4 years. In 2021 Shay opened her studio to the public and started a small clay gallery called Clay Collective, located in Boise, Idaho.
